Today, the makers of the aircraft, namely the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) handed over the first plane to the Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha with nineteen more to go….

However this is far from the intended destination. By 2018, the IAF is expected to get the delivery of these twenty aircraft which will undergo user evaluation trials following which further twenty in FINAL OPERATIONAL CLEARANCE standard will be handed over. It is only upon the successful testing by the IAF will the TEJAS become an operational IAF fighter like the MiG 21 is today
