Rear Admiral Jon Thornqvist, Chief of Staff, Royal Swedish Navy along with his delegation is on an official visit to India from 09 – 13 Nov 14 to discuss existing bilateral ties and explore opportunities to enhance the Navy to Navy cooperation.
The Admiral was received at South Block lawns today morning by Admiral RK Dhowan, Chief of the Naval Staff, Indian Navy and was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour.
During the day, the visiting dignitary met senior naval authorities at IHQ/MoD(Navy) Delhi and at the Ministry of Defence. The Swedish Admiral is scheduled to travel to Headquarters Western and Southern Naval Commands at Mumbai and Kochi respectively to get a first hand impression about the Indian Navy’s technical, training and operational capabilities.
Indian Navy – Sweden Navy co-operation spans a wide spectrum of activities that include collaboration in ship building, technology transfer and anti-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden. The defence cooperation between both the Navies received a fillip when India – Swedish Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation and Production was signed in 2009. Both Navies are looking forward to furthering cooperation in areas of mutual interest with the aim to benefit from each other’s strengths.
