Here is why our people in the remote regions always seem angry

This constable is posted at the gateway to Odisha’s Kalahandi district, in a forested area known as a shelter for the dreaded Maoists.

The police outpost behind him is manned by, just him. He told us that his colleagues posted here ‘managed’ a transfer within two months. He hasn’t for four months. May be because he spent the last two months in a hospital recuperating from malaria he got while serving in the present post.

When we reached his post, while on our way to Kalahandi, there was nobody there. Just like there was nobody in the panchayat office (seen in the above photo), post office, revenue office and health centre of that village. They never are. But the cop turned up. Only they do.
